Ed, 'The Brain'

There is general consensus amongst those who know him that Ed is unusually smart. He has one of those brains where stuff gets sucked in and never falls out. He's humble about it though, you know? Insists that everyone's smart in their own way, blah, blah, blah...

But no matter what he says, and though he doesn't act like a 'knowitall', it's still obvious to most of us that his IQ is way beyond average. He proved it the other day - took an online IQ test and scored 138. Average is 100! Only 3 wrong out of 30 questions.

Do you agree that Ed should pack his bags and head to 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?' If so - leave a comment; I'm starting a petition... ;-)

Thanks To Dad

My dad isn't one of those dads you hear about who never gave out hugs or forgot to tell us kids he loves us. He feels things deeply and expresses affection. But he's not one to GUSH about stuff - know what I mean? He's a 'T' - and he says what he means, and means what he says. Beyond that, when it comes to communicating love, he does so most abundantly by serving - working with his hands.

That said, Ed and I have felt well-loved these past 2 years. Almost every Saturday, Dad (and, most Saturdays, mom too) has sacrificed his own personal time and energy - which could be spent on their own home, or his stamp collection - to work, with Ed's help, on turning our deck into a living room addition that will serve as an extra play-area for Eva. He desires nothing in return for this gift (we have to get sneaky with gratitude! ;-), but simply serves in kindness and humility... These gifts of time and amazing skill are ones we couldn't come close to repaying (even if he would let us). So... just needed another way to say 'Thanks, Dad!' - knowing my mom will read this to him. :-)

Also, times are tough right now for just about everyone trying to make a living anywhere in the home business... My dad is THE most skilled carpenter and project man Ed and I have ever known. I'm not just biased; 40 years of experience and an eye for uncompromising quality has earned him great respect amongst his peers for being an expert at what he does. If you find yourself with any finishing, remodeling, or handyman type projects bigger than what you can handle, as tax returns approach the horizon, I know you'd be blessed by giving him a call... Love you, Dad!

The Family Walk

Some families watch ball games on holidays, some play games, make crafts, take naps. Well, we sometimes play games and take naps too... but the 'Family Walk' is a tradition for sure. Whoever is first to suggest it (my brother this year) is sure to get lots of takers. The walk typically goes longer than planned, and sometimes (like this year) takes us 'off-roading' and trail-blazing. This year was extra special since it was the first where my little niece, Ana, accompanied us. Growing up in this family, I'm sure she too will learn to love 'The Walk'. :-)

Oh - and the 'grown ups' got a little silly once Ana abandoned the wagon (above). Fun to remember playing with my siblings... AND I even got a free ride home! (Thanks, Jer). :-)

Welcome, Abby Beth!

Welcome to my beautiful niece, Abigail Bethany, born early, early this morning, November 1st. She had been quite comfy where she was and decided to linger in there a week+ longer than expected... But we're so happy to have her here with us now, with her lovely, dark brown, wavy hair, rosy face, and squeezy cheeks (yes, I am that aunty). Congratulations to Mommy Amanda, Daddy Jeremy, and Sister Ana on this precious addition to the family.

Lord, thanks for another dear niece - for another little one born into a family who will love and cherish her. We love her and ask that you will guard her life and her heart; grow her up in You, and may she learn that You are real and good at a young age - may she learn to trust You. We are grateful for this precious gift, and acknowledge that she belongs, ultimately, to You. Please bless this new little daughter of yours; give her great wisdom and joy and make her a reflector of Your beauty. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
